The third air-conditioned (AC) rake for the city's Metro Rail has arrived. Built at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Perambur, the coach will undergo thorough checks and trial run before it is put into service in another three weeks or so, according to a Metro Rail release.
It might be noted that two prototype AC rakes have been in operation since October 2010 though not very satisfactorily.
The new rake, it is claimed, will be free from the inadequacies of the prototype rakes. Two more AC rakes will be added to the fleet by July as part of the plan to acquire a total of 13 AC rakes for the city' s underground rail services, the release added.
