The Chennai airport is operational again and “available for all types of aircraft, round the clock,” said Deepak Sastri, Airport Director, Airports Authority of India.
The airport was closed on Wednesday night following water-logging due to heavy rains.
Sastri told BusinessLine that the airport is available for domestic flights today and will be able to operate international flights from 6 am on Monday.
The airport has not suffered any major damage and it is up to the airlines now to plan the schedule, Sastri said.
Assessing the loss On the economic loss, he said an audit will be done to assess the loss. Over 300 flights were cancelled during the period the airport was closed, he said.
On Sunday, among the flights that left Chennai was Air India’s flight to Port Blair. It also received the airline’s flight from Delhi, officials said.
IndiGo said it has resumed partial operations to Chennai with one service on the Bengaluru-Chennai-Mumbai-Delhi sector. It will operate increased flights on December 7 connecting Chennai with Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
