The second edition of Coastal Shipping and Inland Water Transportation (IWT) Business Summit 2014 will be held here on August 29 at Hotel Crown Plaza.
The summit to explore the immense potential of coastal shipping and waterways in the country will be inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Shipping.
Former Shipping Secretary, K. Mohandas, who is the chairman of the summit, said that this edition of the Summit will create a platform to discuss various topics including making coastal shipping and inland water transportation a reality, government and industry initiatives required to push the utilisation and growth of these sectors, engage cargo owners an user intent and commitment for an immediate shift, strategic solutions to maximize utilisation of Ro-Ro, bunkering and other transportation methods, and challenges and opportunities of LNG transportation through waterways.
He pointed out that a shift from land based transportation of cargo to water based movement could happen only with deliberate, well-coordinated efforts from the governments, the infrastructure providers, the trade, the cargo owners and the shipping industry. Together, they have to find the pragmatic path forward and this conference is expected to facilitate the same.
