The Shipping Ministry has given an award to Cochin Port Trust for achieving the highest growth in operating surplus for year 2015-16. The Port’s operating surplus increased to ₹70.9 crore in 2015-16 from ₹19.55 crore during 2014-15, registering a growth of 262 per cent.   

G. Senthilvel, Chairman in charge received the award from Nitin J. Gadkari, Union Minister of Shipping during a brief function held after the review meeting of all major ports.   

C. Unnikrishnan Nair, Traffic Manager, was also present. 

Such a steep increase in the operating surplus was possible due to cost reduction measures and extensive marketing to increase the throughput taken by the Cochin Port Trust, a press release said.
