Cochin Port Trust and Indian Navy have signed an agreement reserving the Q2-Q3 berths at Mattacherry wharf of Cochin Port for naval ships. The Q2 and Q3 berths, totalling 228 metres of quay length, is being handed over to Indian Navy for five years. Indian Navy had requested for exclusive berthing facility in the port to undertake reconstruction work on their berths, a press release said. It was decided that Mattacherry wharf, which is the oldest wharf, could be spared since they are not suitable for berthing big cargo ships because of draft limitation and displacement, the release added.
