Domestic airlines flew 1.15 crore passengers in April registering a growth of 26 per cent over 91.34 lakh passengers carried in the same period last year. The latest data released by the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation shows that IndiGo which flew 45.80 lakh of the 1.15 crore passengers retained its number one position.

Jet Airways, which flew 16.94 lakh passengers, was at the second spot followed by Air India which carried 15.31 lakh passengers and SpiceJet at fourth place having carried 14.27 lakh passengers. AirAsia flew 5.79 lakh passengers while Vistara carried 4.63 lakh passengers.

IndiGo also reported the best ‘On-Time Performance’ of 86.6 per cent among all the airlines at the four metro airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, followed by SpiceJet and GoAir (both reported 86.1 per cent), Jet Airways and JetLite (82.9 per cent), Vistara (78.4 per cent) and Air India (domestic) at 76.4 per cent. However, in terms of Passenger Load Factor, SpiceJet was on top with 95.5 per cent. It was followed by IndiGo at 91.9 per cent, GoAir at 89.5 per cent and Vistara (88.8 per cent). Passenger load factor shows how many of the seats on offer by airlines are filled.

The domestic airline industry paid over ₹2.36 crore to over 96,000 passengers, including paying ₹1.19 crore to over 1,100 passengers who were denied boarding. The industry also paid ₹48.46 lakh to over 14,000 passengers who were affected by cancellations.
