Between April and August, the Hajipur (Patna)-headquartered East Central Railway (ECR) handled 37.18 million tonnes (mt) revenue-earning freight traffic as compared to 34.05 mt in the same period of last year, thus posting 9.18 per cent growth, according to an ECR release.
During the same period, the Indian Railways handled 389.07 mt (366.71 mt), thus registering a little more than six per cent growth.
Coal was ECR's single largest item of traffic, the throughput of coal during the period being 33.95 mt (30.66 mt), or a growth of 10.7 mt.
In August, the Indian Railways handled 75.75 mt and ECR 6.36 mt. , the release adds.
