Hapag-Lloyd, Germany's number one and the world's fifth largest carrier, has announced that from the third week of October, it will stop calling at Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) of the Jawaharlal Nehru port, afflicted with congestion problem, according to shipping industry sources.
Instead, the shipping line will shift to Mundra. The new rotation of its India-Far East Service will be Mundra, Colombo, Port Kelang, Shenzhen-Da Chan Bay, Ningbo, Shanghai and Busan.
The last vessel of the service to arrive at Nhava Sheva is scheduled on October 19.
It might be noted that several carriers made similar moves by calling at Mundra in the past few months to avoid the increasing congestion and operational problems at the JNPT and Mumbai.
