IBS Software (IBS), purveyors of new-gen IT solutions to the airline industry, has clinched a contract with British Airways to supply technology solution for flight and crew operations management.

The multi-million dollar, multi-year contract was signed in London recently, spokesperson for the Thiruvananthapuram-based IBS said here.

Browser-based application

It marked the culmination of an 'exhaustive market evaluation' by British Airways. Under the contract, IBS will implement its newly launched, latest digital platform, iFlight Neo. iFlight Neo is a browser-based application, providing users with enhanced situational awareness as well as multiple platforms and devices for access control.

The technology solution will replace the airline’s legacy mainframe Operations Control system and Flight Crew Tracking system and consolidate other applications into one comprehensive system.

Its aircraft functionality will keep the entire flight operation on track by proactively highlighting the problems and providing tools to find and implement minimum-impact disruption recovery solutions.

The crew functionality will enable the airline to determine the most cost-effective use of its flight crew through day-of-operations execution, including recovery from disruptions. Implementing iFlight NEO is expected to result in a reduction of fuel, crew and operational costs, the spokesperson claimed.

'S ubstantial value'

Klaus Goersch, Chief Operating Officer, British Airways, said that investments in new technology across its operations will help further improve the levels of punctuality and customer service.

Keeping track of the movement and rostering of 270 aircraft and 4,500 pilots around the world and around the clock has many complexities, he added.

"We know we will see real benefits by using the latest technology here. We look forward to working alongside IBS Software to introduce the new systems into our global operations control centre.”

VK Mathews, Executive Chairman, IBS Group, said that being chosen by one of the most prestigious airlines is a defining moment for the newly launched iFlight NEO platform.

It demonstrates the relationship with the International Airlines Group (IAG), of which British Airways is a part, and acceptance of iFlight NEO as a next-generation integrated platform for airline operations.

"We expect to add substantial business value to British Airways be a transformational partner in their quest to achieve increased operational efficiencies and growth."
