Western Railway will be celebrating the International Level Crossing Awareness Day, being organised by the International Union of Railways, tomorrow.
It is participating in this global campaign to sensitise road users to increase safety at unmanned level crossings, a release said.
The week-long drive will commence tomorrow and will specially target the safety at unmanned level crossings.
Some of the steps which will be undertaken include organising public awareness campaigns to educate and counsel villagers, educational institutions and road users and publicity campaigns for social awareness on this issue through media.
Safety seminars would be organised and officers and supervisors have been deputed to check the whistling habits of drivers while approaching the crossings, it said.
Joint ambush checks involving RPF, GRP and civil authorities will be conducted at the level crossings. Errant road users will be apprehended and counselled.
During this drive, it will also be checked if proper infrastructures such as speed breakers, whistle boards, road signs and stop boards have been provided at the level crossings.
