Close on the heels of opening its new office in China to support existing and new clients within the aircraft and engine leasing industry in China and Asia, Ireland headquartered Acumen Aviation has teamed up with India’s aircraft engineering services, Air Works.

Acumen Aviation is a global provider of aircraft technical services, software and support. India’s Air Works provides maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services from 12 airports in India, for business and general aviation customers. An independent aviation services provider, Air Works is into aircraft engineering and management services.

Through a minority investment, Air Works has inked a strategic partnership with Acumen Aviation Europe. The deal would envisage Air Works entering the large and growing aircraft asset management business, and can build a greater presence in Europe, Asia and the US.

The partnership is aimed at focussing on providing customers a single source for best-in-class aviation services.

The turbulence in the aviation sector has had all major aircraft leasing companies and financers becoming diffident about placing their pricey assets, in this case aircrafts, with air carriers across the world. Worried about the way their assets are being maintained, many aircraft leasing firms are proactive in ensuring the assets are returned as per the lease conditions.

Monitoring the health of clients’ assets which are placed with airlines across the globe has become paramount to many aircraft services companies, who need to have the ability to provide support and capacity in terms of aircraft and engine asset management, especially on behalf of lessors, banks and airlines.

The partnership fits Air Works’ strategy of making a push into technology enabled services for the broader aviation industry and working more closely with aircraft owners. While Air Works has already been providing critical repossession and redelivery services to global leasing firms, the partnership with Acumen would enable a stronger foothold in asset management and provide significant cross selling opportunities.

Vivek Gour, Managing Director, Air Works noted in a statement that as the aircraft leasing industry continues to expand, with more airlines focussing on their operations and moving to an asset light model of using leased aircraft, the growth prospects were quite high.

“The complementary nature of our individual business’ expertise will improve our service delivery model, thus enhancing customer experience while achieving business objectives,” noted Alok Anand, Chairman, Acum-en Aviation, in the statement.

Acumen provides asset management services including technical asset management and data management, which is records manageme-nt enabled through software, services to aircraft leasing firms and airlines globally.
