Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) is looking to lease out 20 land parcels on a long-term basis.

According to Vinit Kumar, Chairman, KoPT, the tender for the land parcels would be out in the next 15-20 days.

The total size of the land parcels is 60-70 acres.

Talks with stakeholders

“We have had discussions with our stakeholders and they gave us some feedback. We are incorporating this in the tender document,” Kumar told newspersons on the sidelines of an interactive session organised by Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Tuesday.

KoPT owns around 93 land parcels (total size close to 200 acres) at various locations in Kolkata.

“Once the tender for these 20 parcels are successful, we will put the remaining 70-odd land parcels for tender,” he said.

Some of these land parcels are unused while some were in use till recently but vacant now, he added.

When asked about the revenue generation from long-term leases, Kumar said, “It is difficult to put a figure as some payment would come upfront while some would be on monthly basis.

“If we get the payment upfront for all 93 land parcels, we could earn up to ₹200 crore. But only 30-40 per cent is upfront.”

Jetties for tourism

Meanwhile, KoPT is looking to develop two jetties on Prinsep Ghat and Outram Ghat for tourism purposes on a public-private partnership model.

“We will put up tenders for developing these jetties for tourism purposes on a PPP model in a months’ time,” Kumar said.
