New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has set up a collection centre of a laboratory to test edible oil, chemicals and food grade items handled at the port.
A press release said here on Monday that the Bengaluru-based Robust Materials Technology Pvt Ltd has opened a collection centre in New Mangalore. The first sample of crude palm oil was drawn from the ship m.v. Prosperity that called at New Mangalore Port for unloading it. The samples were tested by Robust Materials Technology Pvt Ltd within one-and-a-half days, it said.
Prior to the implementation of this facility at New Mangalore, the importer/exporter had to take the samples to Mysuru for testing. It used to take seven to nine days to get the reports from Mysuru, it said. This is one of the major initiatives of NMPT with regard to Centre’s policy on ease of doing business, the release added.
