Logistics and warehousing sectors are already witnessing gains of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and set to grow further, according to Somesh Kumar, Principal Secretary, Commercial Taxes & Excise, Government of Telangana.
Speaking at the Smart Logistics Summit organised by maritime gateway here on Thursday, the official said the abolition check-posts in the GST regime had removed long waits of vehicles. “The waiting period in pre-GST regime went up even to 30-40 hours if the server was down,’’ he said, adding the whole logistics system was working very well.
Similarly, many ‘inefficiencies’ in warehousing were also set to go. According to experts, GST will help warehousing to relocate from far off places to zones which are closer to customers.
“Telangana can become a logistics and warehousing hub. The Telangana government is also working on creation of logistics hubs across the 156-km-long ring road, Somesh Kumar added.
Later in a session on sea cargo, Vinita Venkatesh, Director, Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal said logistics sector in the country was moving fast towards digitisation.
