Are you excited about going abroad for a year or two but worried what to do with your household items? Stop worrying. Leave them with Agarwal Packers and Movers on a monthly rent and on return, pick them up.

That’s what Anantha Krishnan, an IT professional, did while moving to New Jersey on a two-year project. “I was worried what to do with the items at home. But Agarwal Packers’ storage came in handy. After shifting the items to their storage, I have given the flat on rent,” he said.

For Krishnan, it’s a double advantage — store items safely and also get rent, said Ramesh Agarwal, Chairman, Agarwal Packers and Movers. Launched about a year back, the demand has gradually increased with over 1,000 customers today using the storage services across the country, Agarwal told BusinessLine .

Security assured

Storage space is available at 25 places, including Chennai, Gurugram, Faridabad, New Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kolkata and Guwahati. It costs ₹3,000 a month to rent 300 cubic metre (enough to accommodate items of a single bedroom house) space; ₹6,000 for 600 cubic metre (double bedroom) and ₹9,000 for 900 cubic metre (three bedroom), Agarwal said.

A client can take any item from the storage at any time. However, users can rest assured about the security and maintenance of their items. The company provides 24/7 security with CCTV surveillance, pest control, weekly vacuuming/cleaning, inventory management, and retrieval facility. The facilities are equipped with fire-fighting gear.

Every week pictures are sent to users of their items. The company also plans to provide live footage online for clients abroad, he said.

At Agarwal’s warehouse in Sriperumbudur, nearly 100 lots lie across the storage yard packed securely, inventoried, palletised on specially-designed and termite-treated pallets.

These pallets are held six inches off the ground and are then shrink-wrapped with black film for added security and protection, Agarwal said.
