The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to ease traffic bottlenecks at major traffic junctions and entry points of the metropolitan region by constructing five overbridges at key intersections.
The authority plans to build flyovers at Shil Phata junction, Mumbra bypass junction, Mankoli junction, Ranjoli junction and Vanjarpatti junction at a cost of Rs 200 crore.
The proposed flyovers include one at Shil-Phata on the National Highway 4, which is also connected by Shil Phata Mahape Road and extends to Kalyan junction. Another flyover would be at Mumbra bypass junction towards Panvel.
The third flyover would be at Mankoli junction at Bhiwandi bypass on NH-3. There would be a flyover at Ranjoli junction on NH-3 at the intersection of Bhiwandi bypass on the Kalyan-Bhiwandi Road.
The fifth flyover will come up at Vanjarpatti Naka on Bhiwandi junction of the Old NH-3 on Bhiwandi-Wada Road.
Mr Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director, MMRDA, said, “These much-required flyovers would ease the traffic flow and are planned at all the critical entry points of the metropolitan region. Moreover, it would also enable exponential growth of the region alongside the Virar-Alibaug Corridor.”
