The Palakkad division of Southern Railway will open two more Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sewak (JTBS) ticket counters near the Mangalore Central Railway station, according to Mr S.K. Raina, Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad Division, Southern Railway.

In an informal chat with presspersons on the sidelines of a function to inaugurate Vivek Express — a mobile exhibition train on Swami Vivekananda — here on Friday, he said that JTBS was a success in Mangalore as a lot of people are buying ticket at that counter.

Considering this, two more JTBS counters — one near the main entry to the station and the second at the second entry to the station — will be set up in three months. These counters will bring down the pressure on the counters at the railway station, he said.

JTBS is operated by a private agency. The operator will charge Re 1 per ticket.

“For a passenger, it is easy as he can go and buy the ticket before boarding. The Railways gives the network connection to the operator,” he said.

This system helps in booking unreserved tickets at the counter.

Mr Raina said that his division has sent a proposal to the Railway Board for setting up another platform in Mangalore Central Railway station. “Hope it will get sanctioned in the Railway Budget of 2012-13,” he said.

On the doubling of railway line across the Nethravathi in Mangalore, he said girders have been launched for the bridge. “We have not been able to connect them because of the heavy rain in the region,” he said, and hoped that the process of connecting it will be completed by December.

On the Vivek Express exhibition train, he said that the train has covered eight States touching more than 79 stations. Around six lakh people have visited this train, he added.
