The Railways will rework its passenger train timetable in such a way that all the planned traffic blocks will be reflected. “This will be done by August 15,” said Railway Minister Piyush Goyal here on Monday.
Goyal further said he has asked for the system followed in Mumbai — where longer train blocks are scheduled for Sundays — to be replicated nationwide.
Also, the Railways will provide free meals to passengers on board if trains get delayed on a Sunday by five-six hours due to planned maintenance works on tracks.
Speaking at a conference here, he added that the Railway Board will sanction a third line between Allahabad and Mughal Sarai junction, one of the highly congested routes.
This will be undertaken at a cost of ₹2,000 crore over the next 24-30 months, he added.
He added that the Railways plan to increase the production output of its coaches, and the excess will be used as spare trains. “This will be done to ensure that when a train reaches the destination late, it does not result in a corresponding delay in the train returning from the destination,” he added.
There is a plan to have all the 16 base kitchens fixed with CCTV, so that people can see the food being prepared.
