One lakh twenty thousand Ola Autos plying in 73 cities have received a tech upgrade with the app-cab’s proprietary ‘Auto-Connect Wifi, which promises to take the humble out of the auto-ride.

Ola first launched the Auto-Connect Wifi for its Prime category in March 2016 and following its popularity, expanded this offering to other categories for members of its loyalty programme Ola Select.

“We have already disrupted the transportation sector by bringing one of the most traditional means of commute online for commuters and driver partners. With Auto-Connect Wifi, we are reinventing the three-wheeler and enabling a connected experience for our customers. The Auto-Connect Wifi experience is built on the foundations of key government initiatives like Digital India,” said Siddharth Agrawal, Senior Director and Category Head – Auto.

Similar to other categories, Wi-Fi connects seamlessly to internet for existing Ola customers as soon as the trip starts. Ola plans to ramp up its auto network to 2.5 lakh vehicles pan India by December 2018.

Given that the average commute in any city is around 40 minutes, Ola sees the vehicle as the ‘third place’ apart from home and office where customers spend a considerable amount of time and would like to make it productive.

To address this opportunity, Ola Play, a connected car platform, was launched last November that offers all Prime riders a personalised in-car entertainment experience with music, radio, video clips, movie trailers.

TV campaigns

In an endeavour to make Ola Autos synonymous with auto rickshaws across the country, Ola has a TV campaign running titled ‘ Auto Bole Toh Ola Auto ’ that translates to ‘Auto means Ola Auto,’ inspired by the popular song M Bole Toh from the 2003 Bollywood hit movie Munna Bhai MBBS . Regional versions — Auto Andre Ola Auto (Kannada), Auto Anthe Ola Auto (Telugu), Auto Na Ola Auto Than (Tamil) — have already been launched through various regional language TV channels.
