Porter, an online logistics marketplace providing intra-city pickups and deliveries, has started its mini-truck service in Chennai. It will start with Tata Ace and Tata Super Ace vehicles providing service within city limits, said N Sadhanandhan, Head-Expansion, Porter.

Customers can book a trip using the company’s mobile app available in Android platform or through its call centre by dialling 044 4410 4410. They can also use the promotional code PORTERAPP to get a flat ₹50 off on all trips using the mobile app, Sadhanandhan told newspersons.

The app shows the vehicles available nearby and the expected time of arrival of the nearest vehicles. Once the trip is booked, customer receives the trip details like driver name and vehicle number. It allows customers to track their consignment in real time.

Fleet of mini trucks In Chennai, nearly 200 mini trucks are attached to the company, which expects these vehicles to make nearly 400 trips a day. In the next six months, the fleet will increase to nearly 500 vehicles making 1,500 trips a day, he said.

For Ace, the tariff will be ₹250 for the first 2 km, and thereafter ₹18 for every additional km. For Super Ace, it will be ₹300 for the first 2 km, and thereafter ₹20 per km, he said.

The company had already started the service in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad with plans to reach ten cities by the year end. Around 800 vehicles attached are attached to the company, and nearly 10,000 customers have used the service.

Some of Porter’s clients include ITC, Roadrunner, Amazon and Flipkart, he said.
