Low cost airline SpiceJet today launched direct flight service to Dubai from this holy city.

“In line with the aviation tradition to mark key milestones, SpiceJet’s Boeing 737NG aircraft deployed in this route was greeted with a grand water cannon salute on its arrival from Dubai,” a release issued by SpiceJet said.

The flag-off ceremony was presided over by G P Gupta, Chief Administrative Officer, SpiceJet and V Venkateswara Rao, Airport Director, Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, Amritsar.

Speaking on the occasion, G P Gupta said, “Dubai features amongst our most prominent destinations within our international network. This route has always witnessed enhanced demand and the launch of this flight will provide holiday makers and business travellers alike with more travel options coupled with our superior service quality levels.

“We are also the only private Indian carrier to directly connect Amritsar to any international destination,” he said.

Flights in this route will be operated on all days except Saturdays. Dubai is one of SpiceJet’s six international destinations -- Dubai, Bangkok, Colombo, Kabul, Male (Maldives), and Muscat.

With the launch of these flights, SpiceJet will be serving Dubai direct from eight Indian cities--Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kochi, Madurai, Amritsar, and Kozhikode with connections from dozens of more cities including Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, the release said.
