Private low-cost carrie, SpiceJet, may explore the possibility of manufacturing sea-planes in West Bengal, its Chairman Ajay Singh said here on Tuesday.
While, Singh did not specify the plans, he pointed out that the company was keen to explore the possibility of manufacturing these aircrafts here in the state. Also on the radar was starting operations of such sea plane services in areas like Gangasagar or in the Sunderbans.
“We can look at seaplane services in areas like Gangasagar or in the Sunderbans. We might also explore the possibility of manufacturing these aircrafts in Bengal. Let us see,” he said during the two-day Bengal Global Business Summit – an annual investors’ summit organised by the West Bengal government.
SpiceJet is also planning to start flights to Hyderbad and Bengaluru from the greenfield airport at Andal near Durgapur while it would start Kolkata-Chittagong air service too. Both these services are expected within this year. SpiceJet also plans to have more flights from Kolkata to ASEAN nations and even China.
Presently, 75 SpiceJet flights operate from the Kolkata airport and the number would increase once more aircraft arrive. Deliveries of new aircrafts are expected August this year onwards.
