Mobile wallet company MobiKwik on Thursday announced that it has partnered Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to power e-cash payments for tatkal bookings.

Instantaneous payments with MobiKwik will help Tatkal online in managing the load of over a thousand ticket bookings per minute. This service will also help users ensure that their bookings do not get rejected due to payment delays.

Speaking on the announcement, Upasana Taku, Co-founder, MobiKwik, said MobiKwik had collaborated with Indian Railways to digitise payments on the IRCTC app and the IRCTC FoodonTrack app this year.

"Now we are powering payments for Tatkal online that will help users book tickets almost instantly. We are proud to support the largest rail network in Asia in their endeavour to digitise payments and provide the best payments experience to their users," Upasana said in a statement.

Tatkal is a special high-demand service that was launched for the benefit of passengers who had to plan their journeys at the last moment and could not secure reserved accommodation.

On an average, over 15 per cent daily ticket bookings for the Indian Railways happen under tatkal.
