Vijayawada-Singapore direct flights are likely to commence from December 4, and not on October 25 as planned before.
The Andhra Pradesh Government had, through a tender process by Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL), chosen IndiGo Airlines as the operator to provide flights between Vijayawada and Singapore.
The bi-weekly flights will be operated on viability gap funding (VGF) support from the State government. IndiGo plans to deploy 180-seater Airbus A320 on the route, according to a statement from the State government.
Regulatory approvals
The first International flight to Singapore from Vijayawada was to take off on October 25. However, a disagreement between the Department of Customs and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on expenditure and arrangement of infrastructure provisions for setting up of Customs operations led to a delay in regulatory approvals.
The approvals were received few days prior to the first international flight.
Following this, the State government has said that the first flight between Vijayawada and Singapore shall commence from December 4 and ticket sales may be opened by October 26.
