VO Chidambaranar Port (formerly Tuticorin Port) in Thoothukudi on June 14 created a new record by handling 51,413 tonnes of coal in a single day at the ninth berth from the vessel Ultra Gujarat, thus surpassing the previous record of 45,396 tonnes handled in a single day at the same berth from the vessel Sea Hope on February 19. Seaport Shipping was the steamer and stevedore agent.
The port had handled 28.49 lakh tonnes of coal up to June 14 of the current financial year, thus surpassing 26.49 lakh tonnes handled in the corresponding period last year, an increase of 7.15 per cent, says a press release from the VOC Port Trust.
