The Jammu and Kashmir Government will start plying water taxis on Jhelum river from April 15 as a pilot project to explore the options of using the water body as an alternate means of transport in the city.
Divisional Commissioner, Mr Asgar Hassan Samoon issued the orders at a meeting, yesterday.
The meeting reviewed the pace of progress for infrastructure building for the project, a spokesman said.
He said tenders have been invited from water taxi operators and vessel owners desirous of plying mechanically driven 18-seater water taxis for ferrying passengers and tourists.
Twelve sites have been identified for terminals which are being developed.
