Import trade in liquid bulk cargoes such as mineral oils (crude), vegetable oils, industrial oils, chemicals and similar liquid commodities has expanded in recent years.

Alongside, issues of logistics, costs, documentation, clearance procedures and so on have also come to the fore. Customs house procedures and trade related matters have assumed importance.

In order to address the issues that have cost and time implications for business houses, a workshop on customs procedures and trade related matters in liquid bulk cargoes has been organised by the All India Liquid Bulk Import Export association (AILBIEA) in Mumbai on March 18.

The half-day training-cum-interactive session will bring for the first time at least three senior revenue officials from the Customs House, Mumbai, who will make presentations on customs law and procedure, customs valuation and EDI as well as documentation, bonding rules and so on. Ms Shoba Chary, Chief Commissioner of Customs, will inaugurate the workshop.

In addition, experts from banking and insurance sectors will share their views on the role of banks in liquid bulk trade and insurance for such cargoes. A presentation on Indian macro-economy and outlook for liquid bulk commodities will also be made.
