The professional manager should do away with unwanted thoughts, according to Dr Sudhir Raj K., Professor at the Nitte-based Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management.
He was delivering Business Line Club lecture on ‘Professionalism for managers' at A.J. Institute of Management in Mangalore on Tuesday.
The event was sponsored by Syndicate Bank.
Terming human brain as a thought factory, he said that brain's operations are fundamentally predictive.
Stating that all the thoughts are not relevant, he asked the students to dispense with unwanted venomous thoughts.
By doing so, they can stay focused to be professional managers.
Avoid hasty decisions
The fundamental task of leaders is to instil good feeling among those they lead. He said that the leader should take a conscious decision, and should not take any decision in a hurry.
Quoting the example of Shah Rukh Khan, he said when the then upcoming actor was offered a role in Baazigar he did not agree in a hurry. He asked the producers whether they were telling him the truth, and the full truth.
He came back to the producers after taking a conscious decision.
The conscious decision then helped him to reach a new peak.
Consciousness is nothing but commonsense and wisdom, he said.
The mind of a future leader should have five major components.
It should be the mind of discipline, mind of synthesis, mind of creativity, mind of respectfulness and mind of ethics, he said.
A professional manager will understand the larger implication of his/her decisions and processes, and will interpret his/her actions through a higher code of conduct in the nature of self-regulation, he added.
Dr T. Jayaprakash Rao, Director, A.J. Institute of Management, Mangalore, who welcomed the gathering, said that involvement with commitment is needed for the upcoming managers.
