The Government will come out with a New Steel Policy by the year-end, said the Steel Secretary, Mr P.K. Mishra.
The new national policy and vision document on the steel sector will project a medium term horizon of 10 years and also a long-term vision of 25 years.
Four task forces have been set up to look into issues of demand, raw material linkage and infrastructure issues, Mr Mishra said at the fifth India Steel Summit.
Steel demand in India at over 10 per cent has overshot the projections as envisaged by National Steel Policy, 2005. The new steel policy is expected to help the industry address challenges such as land acquisition and raw material security among others.
