The Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management (JKSHIM) at Nitte in Udupi district has undertaken a comprehensive research project with the objective to assess the impact of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

Prof K. Ramesh Karnik, Director of the institute, said that SKDRDP, which has been in operation in Belthangady taluk for the last 30 years, has introduced multiple activities to empower rural poor under the leadership of Dr D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala. It has attracted the attention of a large number of scholars and researchers both from within and from outside India.

Extensive study

The research project of JKSHIM will look into the socio-economic changes that might have taken place in the last 30 years in villages in Belthangady taluk. It will also record the factors responsible for such a change.

Dr G.V. Joshi, Professor of Economics at JKSHIM and member of Karnataka State Planning Board, is the principal investigator of the research project. He will be assisted by Dr Sudhir Raj K. and Ms Suprabha K.R., faculty members at the institute.

Dr M.S. Moodithaya, Director of Centre for Global Initiatives, Nitte Education Trust, Dr N.K. Thingalaya, Chairman Academic Council of JKSHIM, and Dr N.S. Shetty, Professor Emeritus, will be the members of the advisory committee of the research project.

Dr Jaykumar Shetty of Economics Department of SDM College, Ujjire, will be the director of the field work. Students of the college will be involved in the field work, he said.
