With Finance Minister Arun Jaitley out of action for sometime now due to his kidney ailment, the crucial task of overseeing the day-to-day affairs of Finance and Corporate Affairs Ministries will now rest with the respective Ministers of State.
For now, there is no indication of any Cabinet Minister getting the additional temporary charge of Finance and Corporate Affairs Ministries, official sources said.
It will be the two Ministers of State — Shiv Pratap Shukla and Pon Radhakrishnan — who will run the Finance Ministry, they added. The Corporate Affairs Ministry will be handled by PP Chaudhury, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs.
They will all be ably assisted by Finance Secretary Hasmukh Adhia and his team of officers in the Finance Ministry and MCA Secretary Injeti Srinivas in the Corporate Affairs Ministry.
Jaitley, who has not been attending office from Monday last, is understood to have conveyed to the Prime Minister and his MoS in both ministries that he would need at least a couple of months to recuperate.
“The work of the ministries are not going to get affected. The Ministers of State will handle the show. All the Secretaries will take care of their respective departments/areas. PMO will be consulted on all critical matters,” sources said.
Jaitley holds the crucial Finance and Corporate Affairs portfolios. He is currently admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
