The National Institute for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (NIMSME), one of the top institutes that has been imparting training skills in the small- and medium-industries space for the past 57 years, finds itself in a spot.
In a surprise move, the Union Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, seems to have downgraded the Hyderabad-headquartered institute’s top post of Director-General to that of Director. In early October, the incumbent DG, M Chandrasekhar Reddy, had completed his contract of five years. According to the Ministry website, the Joint Secretary, Alka Nangia Arora, will hold additional charge as Director till a new Director takes over.
Sanjay Chaturvedi of Narsee Monjee Management Institute, has been selected for the post.
The ministry had advertised in March for the post of Director for a period of 3 years, extendable for a maximum of two years on a contract basis.
About half- a-dozen candidates were short-listed and interviewed. The reasons for the change are inexplicable since several institutes such as the NIRD (National Institute for Rural Development), NIFTEM (National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management) and NAARM (National Academy of Agricultural Research Management) have a DG post.
