(ITPO) is planning to offer retail window in the future editions of the International Leather Goods Fairs held in the country. At present, such fairs are held on a B2B (business-to-business) model.
“We are considering proposals to include a retail component in the leather goods fair. In the future we may specially allocate a day for retail activities,” Mr Subhas Pani, Chairman and Managing Director of ITPO, said on Thursday.
. He was addressing a press conference on the occasion of the three-day Kolkata chapter of the event beginning February 25. Apart from Kolkata, ITPO organises international leather goods fairs in Chennai and Delhi.
According to him, the leather industry currently clocks a business of $ 7 billion (approximately Rs 31,500 crore) of which $3.6 billion (approximately Rs 16,200 crore) worth of goods are exported.
While the US, the UK and Germany contribute nearly half of the export revenue, the other major export destinations of the country's leather products are Australia, Denmark, France, the Netherlands and the UAE.
