The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has set a target to do a business of over Rs 10,000 crore in Telangana in the current financial year. The bank has done a business of Rs 9,266 crore in 2016-17, the highest for the bank in the State. This was 16.12 per cent more than the previous year’s figure.

The regional office has so far sanctioned Rs 3,145 crore to the State government for the Mission Bhagiratha that seeks to provide drinking water to all the habitations in the State. It disbursed Rs 1,384 crore so far.

Two of the three Mega Food Parks that the Centre sanctioned would get a support of Rs 47 crore. “These two are coming up in Mahboobnagar and Khammam. We have disbursed Rs 20 crore so far,” Nabard (Telangana Region) Chief General Manager P Radhakrishnan has said.

Climate change assistance

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday to brief the performance of the bank in the region in 2016-17, he said the bank sanctioned Rs 24 crore for 15 villages in Mahbubnagar (undivided) district to help farmers cope with the consequences of climate change.

The EPTRI (Environmental Protection Training and Research Institute) is executing the four-year project. “The project would focus on small and marginal farmers and building capacities of partner agencies in climate change management,” he said.
