The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly today witness unprecedented scenes with Mr Y.S.Vivekananda Reddy, State Agriculture Minister, assaulting a TDP MLA, forcing the Deputy Speaker, Mr.N. Manohar, to adjourn the House.

Mr Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, brother of former chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, was infuriated when TDP members showed placards “YSR's gang of robbers.” . He rushed to the opposition benches and started arguing with Mr G. Muddukrishnama Naidu. Even while they were engaged in wordy duel, Mr Ch Prabhakar, said something which angered Mr Reddy. He then assaulted him.

Thereafter, TDP MLAs surrounded the Minister but he was taken away by MIM members.

The Deputy Speaker was forced to adjourn the House to restore order and normalcy. It took several rounds of talks before the House convened again.

Later in the afternoon, when the House convened again, the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, apologised on behalf of his cabinet colleague for his behaviour in the House.

He described the incident as unfortunate and felt that it would be better to forget it.

He said that it is quite normal for members of the opposition parties to get angry when some of their issues are raised.

But representatives of the Government need to be restrained in their behaviour. However, often the trouble starts when members make personal allegations.

Therefore, it would be appropriate not to make such allegations, he felt.

Mr Vivekananda Reddy stated that he was annoyed when his brother, late chief minister was unnecessarily dragged into the issue of land deals and badly portrayed, when he had nothing to do with them.

The House was to take up a debate on land deals entered into by the Government with special economic zones and also wakf properties.

The opposition has been demanding a Joint House Committee probe.
