The Centre is focused on lowering the country’s dependence on fossil fuel, said Minister for Railways and Coal, Piyush Goyal.

Speaking at the Seventh World Energy Policy Summit, Goyal said, “For us, reduced dependence on fossil fuels is going to remain one of the prime focus areas of government and government initiatives.”

Highlighting the steps taken, Goyal said, “Over the last four years, we have taken a conscious effort to see where we can replace fossil fuel with cleaner fuel...Railways is one such example. We have very recently approved in the cabinet, a proposal to electrify the entire railway network.”

“We are also working on a proposal to generate enough electricity through alternative means so that the Railways is net zero emission by 2022,” Goyal added.

He also said that the country is committed to ramping up adoption of electric vehicles.
