In a major reshuffle of senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers across the country, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Monday transferred 240 Principal Commissioners of Income Tax.
The transfer comes in the backdrop of the IT department’s collection (includes income tax and corporate tax) falling short in FY15 (by about ₹8,800 crore) of the revised target of ₹7.05 lakh crore.
For 2015-16, the Government has budgeted for a tax collection of ₹7,97,995 crore, comprising corporation tax (₹4,70,628 crore) and income tax (₹3,27,367 crore).
Last month, in his keynote address at the 31st Annual Conference of Principal Chief Commissioners, Principal Director Generals, Chief Commissioners and Director Generals of Income Tax, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley asked senior officers of the Income Tax Department to be prompt in redressing the grievances of the tax payers, expand the tax base in a non-intrusive manner even as they strive to achieve the revenue generation targets.
