The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) has licensed five companies for commercialisation of an anti-diabetes Ayurvedic drug formulation, AYUSH-82, developed by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Science (CCRAS), Minister for Science & technology Harsh Vardhan informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply on Wednesday.

The five companies are Chaturbhuj Pharmaceuticals and LA Grande Herbs & Pharma Ltd in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, Altif Life Science, Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, Dabur India and Kudos Lab, Delhi.

“The licensing of technologies to companies is a source of revenue in terms of lump sum fee and royalty, which is shared between NRDC and CCRAS,” as per the memorandum of association signed with these companies, the Minister said.

CSIR fellowships dip There has been a decline in enrolment of research scholars in the field of science & technology in the past three years, YS Chowdary , Minister of State for S&T, informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply. The number of research fellowships awarded through CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test fell in the past three years – from 2,532 in 2013-14 to 2,251 in 2014-15 and 2,369 in 2015-16, he said.

The Minister said in 2014, the stipend for research scholars was increased but “no additional budgetary allocation was provided to take care of the increase in fellowship amount.”
