The Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTransco) and Discoms will invest Rs 14,000 crore in the next four years to strengthen transmission and distribution (T&D) network.

The power utilities had finalised a programme to construct a large number of substations of various capacities: six 400-KV substations, 37 substations of 220 KV, 127 of 132 KV, among others.

In addition, 170 Extra High Tension (ETH) substations would also come up, according to a release issued here on Sunday.

REVIEW MEET

Meanwhile, in recognition of the efforts of the Andhra Pradesh Government in strengthening T&D network in power sector, the Ministry of Power had invited the Principal Secretary, Energy, Mr Sutirtha Bhattacharya, for a high level conference to review the situation.

The meeting would be held on Monday in New Delhi in which the representatives from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and various heads of the Energy Departments, CEOs of Transmission Companies from other States would also participate.

CONSUMPTION

For the first time, the power utilities in the State have met energy consumption of 265.042 MU which was a record as against 235 MU during the last year.

At present, transmission system availability in the State is 99.89 per cent which is the “highest” in the country.

“Today, the transmission losses of the State are among the lowest in the country. The State had reduced T&D losses from 38 per cent in 1998-99 to 18.34 per cent by 2009-10,” the release added.
