Indian Air Force (IAF) has raised objections to the construction of three hotels close to its base in Rajokri here, the government said on Wednesday.

“Objection has been raised by Air Force Station, Rajokri, in respect of construction by Dhawan Farm, Chawla Farm and Bhatia Farm in close proximity to the Air Force Station,” the Defence Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, told the Rajya Sabha.

In reply to a question on construction of hotels near an air base in Delhi, the Minister said, “The construction by Dhawan Farm (now named Mapple Emerald), Chawla Farm and Bhatia Farm falls within the 100 metre restricted zone of Air Force Station, Rajokri.”

Informing the House that the matter had been taken up by Air Force Station with the local authorities concerned, Mr Antony said, “Under IAF Act 1934, clearance is to be obtained from authorities concerned for any building proposed to be constructed around Air Force aerodromes.”

Under Section 3 and 7 of Works of Defence Act, 1903, restrictions have been imposed by Government upon use and enjoyment of land in vicinity of Air Force installation and establishments, as specified in the gazette notification issued by the Government from time to time, he said.

In reply to a question on investigation into the Adarsh housing society scam, Mr Antony said, “Preliminary inquiry has been completed and a regular case has been registered on January 29, 2011 against 13 accused persons under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.”

In reply to a question on land records, he said, “In order to verify land holdings on ground, Ministry has sanctioned a project in February 2011, to be implemented in a period of three years, for survey, demarcation and verification of defence land.”
