The state-owned low-cost airline Air India Express (AIEL) has a new chief with the senior most officer Mr S. Chandrakumar taking charge from the outgoing Chief Operating Officer (COO), Captain Pawan Arora.

Captain Arora was removed from his post late last week after the Ministry of Civil Aviation sought immediate implementation of AIEL Board's November decision to dismiss the COO from his post.

The Board had sought Captain Arora's removal as norms were allegedly not followed in his appointment. Mr Chandrakumar, currently head of Corporate Communication, AIEL, has been with the erstwhile Indian Airlines for several decades and worked in various departments, including the commercial department.

Mr Chandrakumar is also a member of the all-India Committee on Air Transport Experts constituted by the Government to bring quality and reliable forecasting of air traffic and think tank of civil aviation industry. The committee has been set up to look into the various economic, social and political factors affecting air traffic and arrive at a forecasting model.
