Normal parliamentary proceedings were disrupted on Thursday with the Opposition parties demanding that the Government resign on the Wikileaks expose that the Government bribed some Members of Parliament to win the 2008 trust vote.
Both Houses of Parliament were repeatedly rocked by uproar and adjournments by the Opposition members demanding the resignation of Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and his government. After repeated disruptions since the morning, the Rajya Sabha was finally adjourned for the day at 2 p.m. the Lok Sabha met briefly at 6 p.m. to pass the demand for grants for 2011-12 even as the Opposition staged a walkout.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and other opposition parties including the Left, the Samajwadi Party, the Telugu Desam Party and the Janata Dal (Secular) also came down strongly against the Government.
Addressing a press conference, the NDA Working Chairman, Mr L.K. Advani, said, “We would like the Prime Minister to come to the House and announce that he has decided to resign in the light of new revelations.”
Mr Advani ruled out moving a no-confidence motion against the government saying that the people are no longer with the Government.
CPI leader Mr Gurudas Dasgupta said that if the Prime Minister did not deny the alleged payments then he should resign immediately.
