The Coal Minister, Mr Sriprakash Jaiswal, today said a decision on blocks lying idle with 81 firms is most likely by month-end. The Ministry, last year, issued notices to the companies for not developing coal blocks within the allocated time frame.
?By the end of this month we might take a decision on the blocks (captive coal),? Mr Jaiswal said.
?We have received responses to the notices we served to the companies. The responses for not developing the blocks are being thoroughly studied,? the Minister said.
The firms had given different reasons, including land acquisition problem, for their inability to develop these blocks.
?I have asked the Ministry that you can take more time than actually required but there should be no lapses,? he said.
