The Gujarat Government has passed a resolution to collect royalty on minor minerals used for construction from end-users, instead of quarry lease holders. The move will come into effect from April 1. “The decision has been taken to bring transparency and simplification in the process. Gujarat thus became the first State in the country to effect such a change,” the Minister of State for Mines and Minerals, Mr Saurabh Patel, said.
The royalty will now be deducted at source and on the basis of built-up area at the time of passing the building plan, instead of deducting the amount from the bills of lease holders every now and then. The materials covered under this resolution include sand, soil, gravel, blackstrap, building stones, limestone, sandstone, quartzite and bricks.
