The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) today issued draft metropolitan development plan seeking objections and suggestions to develop one of the fastest growing metros of the country and its peri-urban zone.

The mega plan factors a time period of up to 2031, taking into consideration a population of 184 lakh having a workforce of 65 lakh.

With the notification of the guidelines today, the jurisdiction of HMDA extends to 55 mandals located in five districts of Hyderabad (all 16 mandals), Medak (10 mandals), Rangareddy (22 mandals), Mahaboobnagar (two mandals) and Nalgonda (5 mandals) in all covering a total area of 7228 sq.km with the addition of 5,018 sq km to the metropolitan region.

The plan seeks to create necessary infrastructure to cater to the growing population by developing a network of roads and public transport to cater to the future projected demands in the urban and peri-urban areas. In 2007, 635 villages were added to the jurisdiction of HMDA covering Hyderabad and neighbouring districts. The HMDA was constituted in 2008. The Hyderabad metropolitan region extends up to Toopran in the north along the National Highway-7, Bhongir on east along NH-202, Chotuppal on south-east along NH-9, Yacharam on south along the Nagarjunasagar State highway and Kandukur along Srisailam State highway, Shadnagar, Chevella, Aloor and Sangareddy.

The proposed area includes Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Sangareddy and Bhongir municipalities and 849 revenue villages. The erstwhile HUDA area of about 2210 sq km is fully covered by statutory master plans.

Objections and suggestions could be sent to HMDA up to September 21.
