With no district in Haryana close to India's overall sex ratio, the State Government has constituted a supervisory board to prevent foeticide and promote gender equality.
The board has been set up to ensure strict implementation of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, which seeks to prohibit pre-natal diagnostic techniques for determination of sex of the foetus leading to female foeticide.
A health department spokesman on Tuesday said the State Health Minister would be the Chairperson of the Board and Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary Health Department would act as its Vice-Chairpersons.
According to the provisional statistics in the Census 2011, Haryana registered a sex ratio of 877 females per 1,000 males.
