Heavy rains today lashed most places in Punjab and Haryana providing the much needed relief to the people from sultry weather.
Ludhiana in Punjab was the wettest place receiving a heavy downpour of 79 mm. Patiala was also lashed by heavy showers recording 59.4 mm, the MeT Department said here.
Among other places in the state to be lashed by rains included Nangal, Ropar, Anandpur Sahib, Balachaur and Phagwara.
The rains were preceded by a high-velocity storm hitting some places in the two states. Power supply also got disrupted in some areas.
In Haryana, Ambala (16.7 mm), Karnal (15 mm), Kurukshetra (12 mm), Rohtak and Panchkula were among other places to be lashed by rains. Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two states, received a heavy downpour 60 mm in the wee hours.
The rain is considered beneficial as the paddy transplantation is going on in the two states.
The showers also brought down the mercury by a few notches. High humidity levels had been prevailing in the two states and Chandigarh during the past two weeks.
