The West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo, Ms Mamata Banerjee, will stage a protest rally in Kolkata on Saturday against the Centre's decision to hike petrol prices.
The Trinamool Congress, with 19 MPs in the Lok Sabha, is the Congress' largest ally in UPA-II. According to Trinamool Congress sources, the party will demand a rollback of the price hike.
Ms Banerjee and her party workers will walk nearly seven kilometres from Jadavpur to Hazra Crossing in south Kolkata starting 5 p.m.
On Thursday, Railways minister, Mr Mukul Roy, led a similar protest rally in the city against the hike in petrol price. The protest rally was attended by other Trinamool Congress leaders.
