Praveen K. Tripathi, a 1977- batch IAS officer and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s Principal Secretary since 2006, was today appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi.
58-year-old Tripathi, who belongs to the UT cadre, succeeds Mr Rakesh Mehta who was appointed as the State Election Commissioner on Thursday.
According to top sources in Delhi Government, Mr Tripathi will take charge on Monday.
Mr Tripathy also served the Delhi Jal Board as CEO, besides being the Commissioner of Sales Tax in Delhi Government.
Prior to his appointment as Principal Secretary to Dikshit, he had served the Information and Broadcasting Ministry as Joint Secretary. He is currently holding additional charge as Finance Secretary.
A bureaucratic reshuffle involving several other top officials of Delhi Government is also on the cards in the next few days, the sources said.
The appointment of Mr Mehta, a 1975-batch IAS officer of UT cadre, as the State Election Commissioner came just a year before the elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
