The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the Mumbai region's most important planning body, has a new chief. Mr Rahul Asthana, an IAS officer of the 1978 batch, was appointed as the Metropolitan Commissioner on Thursday.
“I have already set my priorities. Expediting crucial mass transport projects such as the metro rail, monorail and other road transport projects are on top of my agenda. Besides, I also have to put other planned projects into implementation phase and focus on holistic growth and development of the region. I am familiar with the achievements of MMRDA and I am also aware of the challenges before it,” a press release quoting Mr Asthana said.
Prior to this appointment, Mr Asthana was holding the post of Chairman of Mumbai Port Trust.
